SDSU Jazz Ensemble

I was able to attend SDSU Jazz Ensemble’s performance on Thursday, November 5^th at Smith Recital Hall. Director Bill Yeager also brought along guest artist Pete Christlieb the audience’s enjoyment. His Jazz ensemble consisted of about 20 members. These members played anything from saxophone to trombone to trumpet to the rhythm section. The ten song program showed us what Jazz music is like. One thing I noticed was Jazz concert want the audience to be relaxed and to have fun. Jazz dues this by showing off individual skills, drawing on emotions that people can relate to and using casual conversation and jokes in between songs. Some of the solos even made me feel like dancing.

يو م الخميس الماضي فاز فريقنا في دوري الجامعة لكرةالقدم بعد مبارة كانت غاية في الروعة ضد حامل اللقب

وانتهت المبارة بنتيجة 6 مقابل 2 لصالحنا

انا للأسف لم استطع المشاركة في البطولة بسبب ظروفي الدراسية ولاكن الأهم ان الفريق فاز بالبطولة

Last Thursday, we won the SDSU Indoor soccer league. The game was spectacular. The score was 6 vs 2.

Unfortunately, I couldn't play in the league because of my circumstances, but the important thing we won.

Saudi Students Club at SDSU

Last week, we established a Saudi Students Club at SDSU to help the Saudi students and Arabian, too. I am glad that we have accomplished it because it has been a dream that finally saw the light. What also makes more happy is that I was elected to be the president of the club. I hope this will help us to meet our goals which are described are as the following:

1- Help new Saudi students at SDSU and ALI.

2- Getting Saudi students involved in the on campus activities such as sport activities and Coffee hour at ISC.

3- Celebrate the holidays of our culture.

4- Introduce the rich Saudi culture to SDSU students.

Eid al-Fitr party.

First, I will explain what is the Eid al-Fitr? Eid ul-Fitr (Arabic: عيد الفطر ‘Īdu l-Fiṭr‎), often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "to break fast"; and so the holiday symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. It is celebrated after the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan, on the first day of Shawwal. http://en.wikipedia.org

Eid Alfetr was on the last Sunday, and we have organized a big party in this occasion at Mission Bay. About 100 people came to the party.

Their Opinions About San Diego and SDSU

I asked some students about their opinion about San Diego and SDSU, everyone said that San Diego is a most beautiful City in the US, and the SDSU is the best option for us.

Let's go to see their opinion.

Salman says:

There are three factors drive me to say that SDSU is one of the best school I have ever attended. First of all, the food court contains wide variety of clean, comfortable and efficient restaurants which offer delicious and inexpensive food from different cultures like Chinese, Mexican and American. Secondly, a good library plays major role in any educational organizations particularly universities and colleges, because it helps the student getting the information and references easily and without hardship. SDSU beliefs that and that's why it has enormous library that consists of five floors full of book, references, periodicals and computers. Lastly, as a sports addict I need appropriate place to make my daily sport in. The affordable GYM at SDSU is the best place to meet friends and do the sport exercises in a healthy atmosphere.

Naser says:

The dorms are the perfect way to experience college life because the tenants in the dorms are all SDSU student. Tenants are respectful and quite. It is the best place to live at because of the convenience of it. Students just walk to class so they cannot be late whatsoever. They get to use the schools amenities like the GYM, restaurants and so on. The rent is fairly good if we consider that there is no commuting required so students will save on gas, for instant. Another great advantage that I found from my personal experience is that I met students with the same major and we formed our study group which helped a lot. I would highly recommend it for everyone who is looking for a place. Students cannot have a better experience.

At San Diego State University (SDSU) I found that everything is reachable without trying hard which add more to the city of San Diego. Without doubt as an international student who got most of what his studies needed from SDSU, I can say that SDSU's campus is considered to me as one of the places that I got a lot of helpful information from. For that I am more than glad to be in San Diego State University as a student.

SDSU is one of the best universities that I have seen. I like the food court in camps you can find a lot of kind of food there. The bookstore is so organized and near to the food court. I like the parking area it is so big and wild. Also one of the things that I like here is the weather which is wonderful.

Mohammed says;

I really like the way that the SDSU make its students aware of everything in the city. every week, I see a lot of interesting event happen. In fact, it is the best example of the American universities. When I describe what is happening in the SDSU to my friends in my country, they get exciting. The SDSU prepared whatever students need to learn and earn a knowledge. At the same time, there are a lot of interesting activities so that students do not get bored.

Saleh says:

I had lived in San Diego for the last year and my aim was to learn the English language. Simply, the impression that I got from this city and the institute I had been attending is really stunning from many aspects. Beginning with the activities that school arranges in order to help the international students to socialize together, and passing by the fashionable high precision equipments that SDSU gym has it. and finally -without doubt- the beautiful beaches that san Diego has it.

Faisal says:

I think that they have a great campus that includes everything the student might need. Besides, the activities and tours that ALI or SDSU organize help both new students and continuing ones to know the city well, and refresh themselves away from the stress of studying.

The International day at SDSU

The international day at SDSU is an event, where all students from different countries represent their own cultures and traditions. As Saudi student, it was an honor to represent my country Saudi Arabia. On November 2008, My Saudi friends and I displayed various brochures. One has the history of our country; others have information about tourist places. In addition, we made Arabic coffee and brought Saudi dates. We also, offered to write gests’ names in Arabic. During the day, a short movie about the country was played. At the end of the international day, my friend and I performed a traditional dance which is known as (Ardah). “Is a type of folkloric dance performed by the Bedouin tribes of the Arabian peninsula, especially the Arab states of the Persian Gulf. The dance, which is performed by men carrying swords or canes, is accompanied by drums and spoken verse.”

A littel thing about me

Everyone had beautiful days when he or she was a child and sometimes one wants to go back to the past to live those days again. I remember many things about my childhood and when I was a teenager. I will talk about myself since my childhood and until now. I will also talk about my plans for the future.

I was born in 1981 in Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia. I was the first child in my family and my parents were happy. They chose my name like my grandfather’s name. When I grew to be a little boy, I liked playing soccer and swimming. When I was six years old, my father took me to school. I remember that I was crying because I didn’t want to sit in the class. After one year, something happened to me. My family and I went to Mecca, and I lost my family there. They looked for me for more than five hours before they found me in a police station.

When I was in high school, I hoped to work in a bank or an investment company. After I graduated from high school, I looked for a job at banks and investment companies and I found a job in a bank. My job was at the customer services in the investment department of the bank. During my work in the bank, I learned many things about investment areas and money making.

Every person wants to know what will happen in the future and wants the best for himself. For me, I am looking forward to finishing my study in the US, because I want to go back to my country to find a good job. I also want to open a small company because I like to have my personal business.

These were some memories from my childhood and some goals for my future. I wish for everybody to live in peace and have a great future.
